Final assignment: narrative structure brainstorm

I want to display the process of the final assignment in a comprehensive format. I will first explain my idea and why I get this idea by a small article. Then I will display the final work, and introduce the process by another article in a diary format. During the introduction, I want to plug some videos and sounds of the process which I documented.

 First of all, I really like this project, because I believe I can only learn something from failure and the thinking after failure. Thanks you remind me to do this job which I always ignored.

   I think this is really a good term for me, before this class, I have no idea about what is visual art. I don’t know there are so many wonderful and amazing artist and articles in the world. However, I think I fail during I watching these videos, I cannot receive all of the information from the artist and video during watching because of the languish problem. And also this problem makes me hard to express my idea and feeling during the class. I want to read some books about art in future to promote my vocabulary in the art area. It’s a really important mission for me, because I really like go to exhibition and conversation with collaborators. And I think my favorite project is the first assignment. I was asked to display the point of view of ant, and I shoot a picture about my tread. That’s really funny. And I get that idea because a joke from my friend, that taught me always working for funny(for the art work job at least, no math here!).

  If I can have another chance, I would retry the second project. I want to plus some interesting idea in my map, and plug some video and sound in this map.

People always attempt to express their emotion and message to others during conversation, but we always cannot receive all information from others. We always prefer the information we want to receive because of our subjectivity.

When I first get these two words, I cannot figure out what’s the connection between these two different actions. However, when I discuss with my friend about this project and want to get some advice. I find that it’s hard to let he understand what my idea exactly mean. In that moment, I understand the connection between them. When you attempt to spread some message, not everyone can receive it perfectly. I think this process of brainstorm is a long story. I associated spreading message as soon as I get this word. And I think cutting is an action try to avoid or ignore something. That’s why I get this idea.

In my Powerpoint file, I display my idea about the “cutting” in the process of spreading message. Sometimes we just put the information from others into our own view, and we receive the information in different perspectives which is modeled by our subjective emotion and personal environment.

And the final picture is the action of cutting, and that action happens during I try to spreading my message. However not everyone can get it, at least my math professor not.

The reason I select this place, CVS store, is that is really a place I usually visiting. I will buy some food, drink and other commodities like shampoo and battery. In this video, I record the sound that I always sound in the CVS store. In the first about 5 seconds, there is a typical sound of the auto-door of CVS store. And if you listen to it carefully you will notice there are two auto-doors of this store, that’s the difference which make me understand I’m coming into CVS rather than other places even I’m blind. And in the last about 10 seconds of my video, there is a record clip about the special CVS automatic check out. The first impression of this place should be a complete place to shopping, and it’s really economic and efficient.

 Maybe most readers of this articles will focus on the core of the story, the blind Robert and the wife, however I actually interesting in the wife of the blind person. I think it's really different when someone married with a blind person, and I think both of them should have a really unbreakable connection of love. I think it's really tough for me to have a courage to love someone even can't see me. Although we have tactile sense, olfactory sensation, but the visual sense still is the main meant to get information for human. I can't imagine when I lose it, even when I want to know how beautiful is my bride. I mean this is a really brutal thing for a person. So I really admired their courage and love. Falling in love with a person who can't see your face, and that's just like a fairy tale written by Shakespeare which is beautiful but pathetic.

BLOG8：Response for this is water

    For this article, I agree with the fact which the author want to demonstrate.  It's never easy to change someone's mind, and it's always easy to change by yourself. And why is it? In my opinion, I think that's about two important reason. The first is about the arrogance personality, because someone who are arrogance would also be bias to other people. That means they can not accept other's view in a objective and fair way. They always try to deny others and proof them self. However, not every one is a arrogant people, the second reason make us hard to approve other's view is about circumstance. In China, there is a interesting motto that is bottom will decide your mind. I try to translate this motto in a straight way, word by word.　Bottom refer to your seat and circumstance, that things will decide the information which you received. And your judgement will always based on your information. For instance, a millionaire will never understand what is hungry and cold, and they think we are living in the heaven. But for the homeless guys, they think they are in the hell. How could they accept each other's opinion? It's really hard.

   First of all I have to say this is a grand banquet of visual art, and I really can feel the story behind every single artwork.  I really feel excited when I saw some classic moment and someone I really admired. I always believe people take a photo because they can not stop that beautiful and memorized moment. And they are afraid to forget this precious frame, like wedding, newly born and other meaningful things. So we take photos to record, rather than unreliable brain and memory.  And I also feel the portrait of these celebrities are vivid and beautiful, such as the photo of Scarlett Johansson. That pose makes me remember the movie titanic, when jack draw a picture for rose. However, some pictures about landscape are also make me feel impressive. She's a really great photographer.
   After all I think I can not see any thing I don't agree and feel confused this time. I just want to say it's a really beautiful exhibition.

The five objects that I chose are my Grado S225I earphone, iphone4 , PSP3000, TI84 calculator and my watch(from left to right), and then I want to explain why I choose them specially.

1.        Grado S225i earphone

In this picture, this earphone occupied a large space then other objects. That’s mean I really like this earphone and music, and I think it’s the most important thing and common thing in my everyday. I always spend hours in listening music, when I reading and studying. It makes me peaceful, and also make me efficiency. I think this stuff can absolutely demonstrate my identity. And the brand and model also displays my identity. This is a really nice earphone, because he can perform different genre music in the same level. That’s advantage attracted me, and that also means I’m a omnivore in music selection. The other important feature of this earphone is that it’s affordable, actually I don’t think I can afford the high price of Monster’s earphone. So this feature displayed that I prefer the performance of digital product rather than appearance.

2.       Iphone4

And the second object is my cellphone - iphone4, that’s a general object to everyone. Iphone4 is a convenient and multifunction mobile device, and that’s why I buy this cellphone. I can read, listening music, play games, and surf in the internet through the Iphone APP. There is no doubt Iphone is the most powerful cellphone in the world, and it can satisfy the most rigorous user. So I love it’s comprehensive and powerful application. Some funny games like angry bird can kill my boring time.

3.       PSP3000

  I think I’ve already said I’m a computer gamer in the introduction during first class, that means I really like playing video games! I’m also a indoorsman, so I can play games whole day. However, indoorsman also can not avoid some outdoor time, so I need a portable game device during this boring time. And the PSP is a good selection for me, I can play game everywhere, and I can also watch movie and listening music by this device.

4.       TI84 Calculator

Even I’m a really lazy bone, but I still need to face so many due date of my assignment and doing them (like what am I doing). I’m a math major student, which means calculator is my best friend when I complete my assignment. This calculator is really powerful, it can solve the complex integral problem for me.

5.       Watch

  I’m accustomed to wear watch with me, and it can tell me what I should do next. This stuff make me clear, and can always prompt me. And there is an important function for me is that I can know how much time left during a boring class.(Artedu 2520 must be excluded!)

  Firstly, I think I agree that lifelike art can not be a really art in our stereotype. I can understand that music and picture can be a meant of art, but I can't perceive that art is also demonstrated by brushing teeth or something. Actually, I think art is a abstract concept, and it's hard delinted. That's why we can feel the beautiful from the artwork, but we can never show you how beautiful is it. That's also a paradox to human, you can feel but you can never talk about it. And that makes it unique and special in your mind. I also believed that somebody has a talent in art, so someone can feel the inspiration from some usual and common things. Then she or he try to transmit this feeling by creative something.
  So I agree the paradox that a artist who works on lifelike art can not be a really artist. I mean you can feel the beautiful of life but you have to demonstrate them by a more abstract way to express your feeling.

 I still remember when I first time noticed that the classroom is located in the Ohio stadium, I feel really strange. Because I always think that the Ohio stadium is just built for hold match or celebration, I understand that idea totally during last autumn's every Saturday.
     And for the first time I go to the classroom, Ohio stadium,  I could easily find it. I mean the Ohio stadium is a remarkable  building in the campus, so I can easily find the way to reach this place. I lived in the riverwatch tower now, witch is a apartment near the campus, and is also near the Ohio stadium, I can even heard the hurrah from the excited people during the match day.  As I said, I'm really familiar with this place, because I lived about a year near the Ohio stadium. 
     I walked to the stadium in the first morning for this class about 8:45. Because I always sleep late and wake up late to, I have no time to prepare my breakfast. That's why I always buy some food, like the hot got, and drink in the 7-11 convenience store,by the way the hot dog is really good. Then I always across the West Lane 17th Avenue to go into the campus, and I have to mention the traffic light of that streets. I mean it's really a long red light for pedestrian. I always focus on the conversation with my friend who is in the same class, and the usually topics for us are about digital product and some interesting technique.  I can hear the voice from car when I'm on the way, and I often can feel the burning sunshine during this process. The temperature is really high in these few weeks. 
   About 9:00, I reach the Ohio stadium. I remember I really worried about how to get into this huge building at the first time. It's the first time that I go inside. And I also have no idea that there is a classroom in this sports building. I really doubt that we will class on the  play around before the first time.

  That's all about my unique journey to class.

Blog 6: The response of Janet Cardiff, George Bures Miller and
the Power of Sound

    This is an articled described two sound artists,and their artwork in different time. Sound is a obscure thing in my opinion, that means I can not always understand what the information behind the sound. Before I reading this article I just think sound art means music, and I think the art of sound just belong to the musician and their instruments. However, right now, I understand that art of sound could also be a entire feeling of sound. Just like the article said , he encountered their artwork, and the word "encounter" means all of sense engage in their artwork.
   Actually I always believe the brain of people is a powerful computer,I mean you can never find another machine or something can have such HD quantity image like what presents in your retina nerve and the images in your mind. When I hear something, I will try to figure out what makes this sound and visualize it in a specific appearance. So I can understand what means engaged when the author use this word to describe his feeling.
  How ever I can understand a part of this article in the last pages, they talk about a soft-spoken German. I can understand what's that mean in this article.

Responses for Nipple Jesus

    I think I really enjoy of the director's idea in this story. She try to created a film which has no professional actor. And there is no play, no dialogue, everything just happened, the only thing the director should deal with is recording that dramatic moment.This meant make me remember a  film which I loved very much named The Truman Show. That's a film with a strange story and the same strange black humor. The leading actor in this movie is my favorite comedian Jim Carrey. He is a famous for his exaggerated face expression, and he always can make me laugh. When I watch the movie The Truman Show, I cannot believe my eyes. This cannot be Jim Carrey's movie, it make me feel bad and depressed. In that movie, Truman living in a film, I mean, his life is just a show. Every friend of him is a role in that living show. He just alive in his world, however, he also live in others TV channel. Although the main idea of that film and the Nipple Jesus is different, I still think there are something should be common. Both of the directors in two movie using a meant that try to recording something is real and natural. That make their film like a living show, which is more vivid.
   However, I can not accept the meant. Because I don't think you can achieve idea by provoking other's faith or something.

When I take the first ten pictures, I just walked around, and take some photos. I mean I feel really easy about it, and I have no purpose for do this job. But when I took the second ten pictures this time, I spent about 1 hour to make a plan before I'm doing. And I try to select a good place and background for my picture, I focus on something before I taking the pictures rather than the moment of shooting. 

  Answer:

  1. What was the same about the experience? What was different?

  I think the same thing is that I want to demonstrate some is special and try to affect the people who is looking at my picture.The differences should be the meaning of this picture and the feeling when I took these photos. For the first one I just try to show someone what I said and liked. However, when I took the second ten pictures I think I just want to approach the assignment. In the nutshell, I have some natural motivation for the first one, but for the second, I just have a idea. 

 2.Which process was more enjoyable for you and why?

 I think it's hard to answer this picture for me. I feel enjoyable for both of them partly. That means I think I need the motivation from the first one, and I also like the feeling in the second process. For example, when I take a photo about the point view of the ant, I get an idea that what's the feeling of ants when I tread to them. I think both of the motivation and inspiration(idea) are important things for pictures.

3. Which images are your favorites? Why?

 I think the photo about the point view of ant is my favorite. Because what I said in Last question. I think a good idea and a motivation of filming something will create a more interesting and unique picture. The simply landscape can not express the theme of the picture.

Response for Walker Big Idea
   Big Idea is important in creating new things. Big Idea is kind of inspiration or impulsion, and this idea will lead us to create something. In this article said that the dream is a example of big idea, and that makes me remember a famous story about the idea in the dream. The great scientist Michael Faraday found the structure about the Benzene molecule, and he is inspired by his dream. He dreamed a snake which bites its tail like a circle, and that prompted he. Finally, he found the molecule structure of Benzene. So I believe a big idea is a important inspiration in art.
   In this article, the author also talk about the artwork named In The Garden, and he said the artist use the life size scale to create his artwork. However, I don't like that kinds of style.

          There is no doubt that the connotation of art sometimes is more attractive than itself. For instance, 
the most famous painting which is named Mona Lisa Smile contained some connotation, and this connotation attracted and is still attracting many people to deconstruct her smiling and the connotation behind the artwork.And I also noticed and agreed with the distinction between denotation and connotation, I think things always denotes and connotes something. We ignore this distinction in the life and work, but it's important in deconstruct an artwork even creating a artwork.
     In the end, I still have a question about the three massage style for the artwork. Dose association belong to denotation or connotation?

    In my opinion, the author want to express two major point,  the first is enemy is a important exist for us.   I think I agree with this point, because competition is a major energy to push the human society toward.  For example, in the World War two, the science level substantially increased, that truth demonstrates that we need a enemy to make us understand that we should always improve.

    However, the second opinion is that we are in another dimension  so we cannot understand other's faith. I think I can't agree with this point, because I think communication is always longer than the gab between people. We can across thousands mile to different country, and communication with different language. That means we just need patience to understand.

    Things happened and things changed, this is the most important principle of the geopolitics. Nothing is perfect, and this is also a important principle in philosophy and aesthetics. So we always try to fix the error to improve. Rule is changed, because rule is not perfect and we need to fix it. However, the reasons are behind of the changing maybe different. For example, in the initial age of NBA there are no 24 seconds rule and defensive three second rule, and that makes the game is not as intense as now. So they change the rule.

After reading this article, I have a question about changing rule. Dose everything is changeable? Can we change everything rule just because we need? If we can changed everything, do we still need principle and law?

  This gif picture is from some net friends, and this picture is try to contrast two major graphics card company. Although this is just little joke from some ATI fans, but we can see see some important information in contrast graphics card through this picture. There is no doubt that the processing on the detail is a important item in animation for movies or games. These two picture is a scene in the in the movie Avenger. We can see the iron man from the left picture just like a cube man, and that's means nvidia's graphics card can not processing the details as perfect as the ATI graphics card. That's just like the article said that to make a glass milk in animation is harder then create a dinosaur. A soft sing like circle need a complex function to describe it, that means we need a more powerful computer.
  After reading this article, I want to ask the question, dose animation just means technique? I think a interesting story is also important.

Because of the stereotype of the mathematics and the people who dedicated in this major. May people think me, one of the thousands mathematics student in the world, is a atypically Geek or nerk who is a genius in mathematics and science, and a idiot in art and social work.
   However, whatever you feel about the geek like the character Sheldon in the Big bang theory is cute or not, I'm not that style person. I'm a unique and average people like every common unit in this society. I'm unique because who I was, because I still believe every birth is a little miracle. I'm common because I'm not a genius or something. I love science, because it can teach me reason and objective. Mr.Science teach me how to see and analysis the essence behind the world. However, I also love art, Mr.Art teach me how to feel the love and beauty in the world, and how to create something. That's me, a person is common, a person like everyone.
